Hospital & Medical Plans for Expatriate Canadians

If you are a Canadian planning an extended trip outside your province or Country for over six months you may no longer eligible for Provincial health benefits (some exceptions apply), you will be considered an Expatriate and have to find a more extensive plan to cover both the major unplanned events that may occur, as well as the day to day ongoing expenses we sometimes take for granted in our Canadian health system. In today's global market, a variety of needs exist for international medical insurance. Whether you are moving abroad, traveling frequently between countries, maintaining multiple countries of residence, or seeking private health care alternatives, Stirling Benefit Plans will consult and review with you the many available programs that will ensure the wellness of you and your family while away for moths or even years at a time.

Return trips to Canada or your original country of residence are also covered, provided you are not eligible for government health insurance coverage. Pre-existing condition coverage is available for Expatriates who want a written guarantee of coverage for pre-existing conditions and emergency coverage for any new sickness or injury.

Who Qualifies? You are eligible for coverage if you are not insured or eligible for benefits under any government health insurance plan and you are : i) a Canadian Expatriate residing outside of Canada; ii)a returning Canadian who is awaiting government health insurance coverage; ii)a Foreign Expatriate residing in Canada; or iv) a Foreign Expatriate residing outside your original country of residence, while employed by a Canadian Company. Important To qualify for coverage, you must be age 79 or under, complete a medical questionnaire and receive written approval.

Some of the many benefits available can include:

Hospital Semi-private hospital room accommodation and other hospital services and supplies required for necessary care. Physicians and Medical Necessary medical, surgical and anaesthetic services provided by a licensed physician or anaesthetist. Extended Health Care Private duty nursing, prescription drugs, X-rays, laboratory services, local ambulance, necessary medical appliances, and the services of a chiropractor, chiropodist, podiatrist or physiotherapist, Maternity Benefit When the expected delivery date is more than 10months after the effective date, up to 80% of eligible expenses are payable as a result of childbirth, pregnancy, miscarriage or complications related thereto, Newborns can be covered after 15 days. In order for newborns to be covered after 15 days, a medical questionnaire must be completed. Emergency Air Ambulance/Return Home or the nearest appropriate medical facility, Repatriation to return you to Canada or your original country of residence in the event of your death, or burial or cremation at place of death. The cost of a coffin or urn is excluded. Dental Accident Expense Treatment, replacement or X-ray of your sound, natural teeth which are damaged as the result of a direct accidental blow to the mouth. Transportation of a Relative to bring an immediate family member to your bedside, and commercial accommodation and meals, if the attending physician certifies you have been hospitalized for a critical injury or sickness, or in the event of your death, to identify your remains. Accidental Death & Dismemberment Up to certain limits for loss of life, limb or sight within 100 days o fan accidental injury. Vaccinations, routine annual examination by a physician or optometrist after the policy has been in effect for six months. And much ,much more.
